Scott Atkinson
Senior Director Infrastructure Systems, Shaw Communications
First exposed to the telecommunications and cable television industries in the early 1970s where he was employed as a Radio Inspector, Interference & Enforcement Officer for the (then called) Federal Department of Communications (the Canadian equivalent of the FCC).
Catching the cable television bug, he later accepted a position with the fledgling Engineering department of Vancouver Cablevision (1976) limited. Over the next 30 years, Mr. Atkinson fulfilled a number of roles and positions within the Management, Technical Operations, and Engineering areas of the Vancouver lower mainland cable operation.
In early 2007 he accepted a position with Shaw Cablesystems as a Director of Plant Systems within the corporate Engineering department. That role later expanded to encompass all areas of Engineering Infrastructure including, outside plant, technical buildings and data centers. In his current role as a Senior Director, he leads a team of 200 + staff engaged in Plant Systems, Buildings & Data Center Infrastructure as well as Network Management & Records on a national basis.
The Shaw Engineering Infrastructure teams are engaged in initiatives in a number of operating regions across the Shaw network from Vancouver Island in British Columbia to central Ontario.
Mr. Atkinson is an active member of the Society of Cable Television Engineers and resides in Calgary, Alberta, the corporate headquarters for Shaw Communications.
